You know how sometimes in this world there are some people that no matter what you do for them you can not please them.
There is a business women in internet marketing that I have known for some time and every time I meet her at an event or speak with her, there is just no pleasing her.
As an example…
… I invited her to be a guest on my live radio show. I knew clearly what would be of interest to the listener and briefed her on the subjects I wanted to cover.
But no … she knew best and then told me what she wanted me to interview her about.
I can assure you, that is NOT the way to handle someone in the media. If they want to ask you specific questions make sure that you answer them – all journalists and broadcasters have a vision for how they want their interview or article to develop. Being a challenging guest is one sure way that you won’t get asked back again.
Let’s just say that I knew when we were in the middle of the interview which parts of the interview I was going to edit out – fortunately I pre-record my show. If it had been live, I would have switched to a commercial break or another guest!
People like this are effectively being self centred and are thinking of themselves first – the key whether marketing online or offline is to have the other person – be that your client, joint venture partner or someone in the media – at the centre of your thought process and attention.
What is it that they will want to know about?
Do this and you will be sure to be more on target with your communications and are more likely to translate those connections into clients, referals and profits.
