One of the key strategies I teach my clients is the importance of creating information products – from e-books to audio tutorials, from white papers to webinars.

Information products can both help you generate more leads and attract more clients and to create new streams of revenue in your practice.

It goes without saying that the content of your information products needs to be valuable – no matter if it is free or if you charge a fee – if you are going to encourage subscribers to your information products to want to know more about your business and ultimately become a client or customer.

However an often over looked element is the packaging of your information product.

Whether you are producing a virtual product or a physical product, the way that your information product is presented can significantly impact the decision of someone to either offer their email address for your free information product or get their credit card out to invest in your product.

Particularly on the internet, can you communicate the value of your content through your external packaging and design.

As you decide to develop information products in your professional services firm and you look at the examples of other peoples packaging consider:

  • does the packaging look professional?
  • does the packaging quickly and clearly present the promose of what I might learn and discover if I purchase this information product?

As you work with a designer to create your own product packaging you need to also consider:

  • what would the packaging need to convey to be attractive to your ideal clients
  • how do I ensure that the packaging is consistent with your corporate brand identity.

Creating a magnetic package for your information products is definately worth investing in. I am often approached about joint venturing with others and offering access to a free information product to these joint venture partners has been one of the key ways that I have built my list of potential clients and subscribers to my mailing list.

A great example can be seen at the recently launched programme of Self Improvement Gifts, where you will find thousands of dollars of gifts in the area of self improvement.

I highly recommend that you register for this time limited offer – it does not cost you anything to register and once you have access, you will find it a great source of research both in terms of information product packaging and also effective sales copy.

You will find hundreds of examples of information products – they may not be in your area of expertise, but they will show you the differenct between poor, good and great information product packaging.

And who knows, you just might find some great resources and tutorials that you are interested in.
