I’m often asked by leaders of professional service firms when they are considering authoring their own blog, how will blogging attract more clients and how do you encourage people to read your blog?
This year I’m implementing a number of strategies to continue to build my corporate brand and my personal brand online with my blog and here is a new strategy I am trying this week.
It’s participating in a blog carnival.
A blog carnival in a collection of blog posts by different bloggers and is focused on a specific topic and published often weekly or monthly.
Many carnivals are hosted by a series of hosts which means that your blog article appears on different blogs so building awareness and reach of your corporate brand or personal brand.
You might wonder why you would want to participate with others who are offering seemingly similar services and products as yourself, however collaborating with others is a powerful way to build your brand.
I’ve decided to submit a blog post for consideration to the Carnival of the Capitalists which features blog posts on the business related content including marketing, finance and management.
This week it is being hosted by David Maister, a blogger that I follow and probably the most renound expert in the field of managing your professional services firm.
So if you too have a goal of building awareness of your personal brand, your expertise and your business, why not find a blog carnival focused on your area of expertise and submit a blog post that you believe is relevant and content rich that just might attract the reader to mouse over to your site and add you to their RSS feed or blog roll?
And if you already read or participate in blog carnivals, perhaps you would be happy to post your recommended blog carnivals here along with details of their target audience for each others benefit.

Hi Krisna!
I did this just last week and I was featured on an Online Entrepreneurs Blog Carnival and I was SO excited!
I received more traffic, new comments and I felt good about being featured – it made me feel valued and noticed.
I highly recommend it as part of a blogging strategy – I’m about to look up other blog carnivals and I’m going to submit blog posts more frequently in hopes that it will open up more doors.
Thank you for sharing!

Erin – that sounds fantastic. Well done!
I am a great believer in leveraging our time and content and this seems to be a great way to do so.
I’ll be sure to let you know what outcomes there are from me participating in the CoC which will go out next week.
Best wishes
Krishna

Krishna, you’re on fire!
I track a large number of blog carnivals as part of my job — and it has been a pleasure to come across your name in so many places this week.
I hope you keep finding the exercise productive. I certainly enjoyed your entry in the Carnival of the Capitalists this week.

Shaula – thanks for taking the time to post and for the feedback. Well the reason you see me in a number of places is all down to you and your recommendation of the blogcarnival.com site. So thank you!
As you know this is the first time I have participated in a blog carnival and I can see from my stats that it has had a huge impact on my webtraffic and also comments so I will certainly be continuing to contribute to blog carnivals.
I just hope that I can come up with content that is worthy of being included in some of the terrific carnivals there are.
So thank you again Shaula.
PS – you’ll be interested to know that David’s blog reference was one of the top 15 referers to my site – thank you so much.
PPS – be sure to let me know about you and your business by email as there may be people I should be referring to you as a client.
