Watching Jonathon Ross on TV last Friday night I was struck with something actor and Hollywood legend Will Smith said during his interview.
Jonathan was talking to Will about his singing career and asked him if he missed it or was it just a sideline for him.
Will replied:
“I realise that to have the level of success that I want to have it is difficult to spread it out and do multiple things in order to be world class, and I made a decision that I want to be world class it takes a such a desperate obsessive focus to excel on a level that I want to have”.
He then went on to say:
“… you really have to focus with all of your fibre and all of your heart and all of your creativity…”
So if you are wondering why Will Smith seems to be such a sought after and successful movie star now you know the secret of his success - FOCUS.
I know if is something that many of us as entrepreneurs struggle with as we see the vast array of opportunities in front of us. But lack of focus is one of the biggest challenges I think we have to overcome if we want to realise the success we dream of.
Many business leaders resist being branded or labeled as an expert. Will puts it another way - that he strives to be world class.
What would it take for you to exhibit greater focus and become world class in your field so that you attract greater success next year? I know that is something I am going to reflect on in the next few weeks.
And if you want to hear Will’s commentary on becoming world class fast forward on the video to 7minutes 47 seconds.

Great post. I, too, feel I need to be more focused in the coming year. I’ve begun doing that by spending a lot of time talking to myself: “What do I really love to do and am I doing it?” and just as much time talking to people who know me well: “What do you feel I’ve done well in the last year, and where do you feel I went astray?” I’ve learned so much already, and am starting to really hone in on my roadmap for next year. At the same time, I’m developing a really good network of people who I hope will become my sounding board and GPS system in the coming year to help me stay focused. Those things, I believe, will lead me to be world-class!

I love this! I think we can learn a lot from top Hollywood actors. No matter what is wrong with their personal lives, their dedication to their profession is outstanding.

Hello Krishna:
Will’s insights are interesting. The theme reminds me of your Personal Branding Summit interview with Stewart Emery. The event was good and this interview was way ahead of the others IMHO.
