Yesterday evening I was invited by Penny Haynes to participate in a podcast ahead of the International Podcasting Expo taking place on the 20 and 21 April 2007.
The other corporate podcasters included Anna Farmery, Connor Harkim and Jerry Franklin and we had a great conversation about the biggest podcast mistakes we have come across (or made ourselves) and the positive aspects of podcasting we have experienced.
We discussed the fact that podcasting is a great way of building and engaging with your community and I shared some of the strategies I use in my podcasts.
- Include Show Notes – as I want to make my podcast as easy for my listeners to engage with as possible and help them decide if a particular episode it going to be worth listening to (given that over 70% of podcasts are still listened to by being streamed from a website), I now include show notes.
This provides an overview and summary of the podcast on the web page which means that not only will my podcast listener know what is going to be covered but also they can fast forward if they have limited time to the section on the show they are most interested in.
- Include Your Contact Phone Number – as podcasting is about building community and engaging with your listeners, I have now begun to inclide the phone number for my 24 hour media centre where listeners can leave a message with their feedback and suggestions. This is in addition to the ability to leave feedback on the page where the podcast is hosted
Do you have other recommendations for what works for you in engaging with your podcast listeners or what you recommend we avoid doing?
