One of the things I have noticed when attending live events about new media from blogging to podcasting is that there are not too many women at the events. That is not to say that women are less than active in the world of blogging and podcasting - far from that.

Valeria Maltoni the author of the Conversation Agent has decided to start a “W list” – a list of women who write great blogs.

It’s great to see my good friends Andrea Learned and Anna Farmery on the list along side women bloggers that I have followed for some time. I’ll be taking time to familiarise myself with the other bloggers on the list in the next few weeks.

You might recall that Mary Gilmartin created a list of female bloggers in Ireland prior to the 2007 Irish Blog Awards.

Anyway, here is the list of women who write great blogs that Valeria is developing – it would be great to ensure that we have some more European female bloggers on the list for example:

So come on girls (and boys who know girls who author great blogs) let Valeria know – don’t be shy – as the advert says – you’re worth it – being on the W list that is!

For now, I have listed the blogs Valeria mentioned in alpha order of their blog name:

Update 8 August:

Also leave a message in my comments with the name of the female blogger and the URL of their blog. Or if you prefer, send me an email. I will update the master list at the end of the month. I can’t wait to hear from you and add you to the growing list of women who author great blogs!

You know how great blogging has been to help you express your personal brand on-line – so enough of being shy – make August the month for shameless self promotion!

And of course lets also share a little link love! I’ll list the “W list” across The Podcast Sisters, Todays Women in Business and Biz Growth News for you so we share the list and far and wide.

As at 7.30 pm, the W list is going viral and Tiffany Monhollan of The Little Red Suit has added more great female bloggers to the W-list – find the latest update of the list here.

I will be “unplugged” for most of the next 7 days as I am about to leave fo vacation, so thank you in advance to those of you who add and share the list and i look forward to coming back to a wonderful list of blogs to explore on the W list in the next week or so.

Clearly my name only got on Valeria’s list because of my work with you on The Podcast Sisters! You are coaching me well….

Isn’t it nice to see women getting a little of the spotlight, there are some great women out there that I follow closely and what a great idea to showcase the female talent. Mind you I need to rename mine An Engaging Brand to ensure a top billing!!

    Krishna:

Very nice to meet you and thank you for picking up on the W-List so quickly. Anna is one of my favorite people in the world so it was a pleasure to include her. And thank you for doing the alpha thing… so we can make sure nobody gets dropped.

“Go raibh maith agat” (thank you!) for sharing the “W list” love. Greetings and best wishes from sunny Boston!

  5. Krishna De Says:

@Anna – I think whether you are OK with your name – people scan to the top and the bottom of the list – it’s the people in the middle who will need to worry.

I didn’t realise that when I created Biz Growth News – I just wanted a name that said what we did – but it is a help to start with a B!

@Valeria – you are welcome – thank you for starting the list.

@CB and Lori – you are more than welcome.

    Blogs: Presenting the W-List…

There aren’t enough hours in the day to keep up with all the great blogs out there, but it’s fun to try. Here’s the W-list, originated by ConversationAgent, organized by Krishna De’s BizGrowth News and passed along by ThePodcastSisters. Enjoy….

@Anne – you are more than welcome. It is great to find blogs that I have not been reading to-date and build new relationships with women across the globe.

  10. The W List Goes Viral – Help Promote Women Who Blog « Little Red Suit Says:

[...] August 9th, 2007 Something called the W List was recently started by Valeria Maltoni to catalog the greatest women who blog. This list was picked up by Krishna De, who added some of her own favorite women bloggers, so I’ve decided to take up the call for the list to go viral and post it here, along with some recommendations of my own. So here are my contributions to the list. I’ve added them in alphabetical order to the list below. [...]

  11. One More Damsel in Success « Little Red Suit Says:

[...] But with all the fuss about personal branding, there’s a side of it that doesn’t seem to get a lot of attention. I’m talking about gender. Some of the biggest blogging communities in the world are full of woman bloggers. People are starting and sharing lists of the most prominent women bloggers. Women are supporting each other, sharing and talking about the world the way we see it. But all this brings up an interesting question, in my mind. Are we focusing too much on girl power and leaving our guy counterparts and half of a viable audience out of the mix by being too woman-centric?   [...]

    Krishna,
Thanks for the shout out! It’s been really great watching the list spread and seeing the response to it. I think you’ll find a lot of great new additions when you get back to your screen! Hope you enjoy your vacation and can recharge by getting unplugged.

  13. Carol Says:

    Hi Krishna,
Thanks for the opportunity. Hope you have a great well deserved holiday and don’t use the blackberry too much!

I have a blog on http://www.quovadis.ie/2007/08/facing-redundancy.html which provides tips about how to enjoy working life , and dealing with work related issues from being overlooked for promotion, getting your dream job to facing redundancy.

  14. Elayne Riggs Says:

Good luck with expanding this list! The wonderful thing about female-written blogs is that there are so many of them, you really need to categorize them! Most of my blogroll is either cultural or political, and I have dozens of women-authored blogs listed in both broad categories. If you want to narrow it down even more, you can also find dozens of, say, women-authored food blogs, comics blogs, leftist political blogs… it truly is mind-boggling! I remember a time not so long ago when other political bloggers were having to answer the “where are all the women bloggers?” question (always asked from guys, of course) just about every three months; now many of them are considered A-list movers and shakers, paid attention to by the possible next President of the US. Mind-boggling!

The W List: Outstanding Women Bloggers…

I found a great post today through sk*rt of The Magical List of Outstanding Women Bloggers. I am always excited to find new blogs to feed my addiction (and my reader), especially women bloggers.

I loved the idea behind the W-List but I wanted them to be organized so I took it upon myself. I added descriptions and categories to each posting.

Celebrating Women Bloggers: The W List…

Many thanks to both Liz Strauss and Drew McLellan for adding my name to The W List, a celebration of women bloggers. I found it especially interesting that the announcement of this list coincided with my partner Mike Chapman’s post about the dear…

  19. Sherry Read Says:

I came across this list on The HeyMarci Blog and have already subscribed to a number of the blogs listed. What an amazing phenomena. I write about solutions that enable people to be strong, confident and successful as leaders, particularly in multi-cultural organizations. As I sit behind the “great wall of China”, I can’t get directly all of the wonderful blogs out there (the powers that be having blocked access to blogs posted on the leading blog servers) to leave comments – so sorry – but I can read you through various services. YEAH!

  20. W also stands for witty, worthy, worldly, and wise « Diablogue Says:

[...] W List Beginnings Dubbed a “list of great blogs by women,” the W-list concept was developed by Valeria Maltoni who started the list with Kami Huyse’s Top 20 PR Power Women, which was extracted from ToddAnd’s Power 150 Top Marketing Blogs. Kami’s list analysis revealed the lopsided ratio of male-to-female bloggers and, thus, the first iteration of the W List was born. As the list replicated and grew with varying versions, Krishna De further organized the effort by adding links and alphabetization. Toby Bloomberg announced the availability of the W List on Facebook. [...]
