December 4th, 2008 by Krishna De / Print This Article / Email This Article /

IIA Wiki: Social Media Working Group Over the last number of months, the Irish Internet Association has had a number of their members gifting their time on a Social Media Working Group.

The working group has been developing a number of draft white papers on different elements and platforms related to social media in business.

On Friday 5 December 2008, the first draft white paper is going to be discussed in open forum and online with the goal of further enhancing the draft white paper on business blogging to provide a helpful resource to businesses in Ireland exploring and engaging in business blogging.

The challenging goal is how to provide a document that is a short helpful resource to businesses looking to get started in business blogging, providing sufficient in depth comment without replicating other resources available and with the white paper being in the context of business blogging in Ireland.

Recently an O2 survey of 300 SME’s indicated that just 6 per cent of SME respondents to the survey had has started a business blog, versus the 37% of SME’s in North America who have a business blog according to a report by Dell.

You can participate online and if you are a member it is free to join the event in person. There is a small charge for non members as the IIA is a not for profit and has to cover it’s costs. Here are the details:

Great to see business blogging in Ireland picking up.

Do you by any chance have a link to that survey by Dell?

  2. Krishna De Says:
Sinead – the stats from Dell I recall from the communications they put out when they launched their Facebook page about social media for small business which one of my co-presenters of The Podcast Sisters was featured on – http://www.snipurl.com/fbdell

    Hope that helps.

  3. The long tail of blogging « Where have all the people gone? Says:

[...] Krishna points out that only 6% of Irish SME’s have a blog as compared to 37% in the US. If Adrian is right then Irish SME’s are smarter than US SME’s in figuring out quicker that blogging is a waste of time. I think the real truth is that Irish businesses have not yet figured out what the benefits of engaging with blogging might be. [...]
