So often people remark how Ireland has changed in the last 10 years or so and one feature of that has been the changing population.

The Central Statistics Office has recently released a report about the population make up of Ireland at the time of the 2006 census in April 2006.

The report shows that at the time of the census there were some 188 countries represented in the population at the time of the 2006 census.

Countries with over 10,000 people being represented included China, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Nigeria, Poland, United Kingdom and the USA with the top 10 countries accounting for 82 per cent of the total non-Irish population.

Of the 420,000 non-Irish people residing in the State on census day in April 2006, the largest group were UK nationals, who numbered 112,000. The next largest group were from Poland, Lithuania, Nigeria and Latvia.

So what does this mean for us as business leaders and marketers?
