Twitter from your mobile with O2 So you didn’t get the iPhone, Blackberry or smart phone that you had on your list to Santa? One question I get asked about a lot is how to Tweet when on the road.

Just before Christmas, Twitter announced that in association with O2 in Ireland that they have made the Twitter SMS service available if you are using the O2 network. O2 is the first carrier to launch Twitter SMS in Ireland – all you need to do is send “START” to 51210 and either sign up for Twitter or activate your phone with your current Twitter username.

Receiving tweets is free(but limited to just 500 Tweets received a month – so you just might want to be selective about who you receive Tweets from on your mobile phone. I also remember back in the early days of Twitter when receiving Tweets on your mobile was freely available that I had a lot of friends outside of Ireland and it was not so great getting a notification at 4am that they had just Tweeted!

Currently to send texts to Twitter, there’s a charge of 11c (including VAT) per message for Prepay customers and 9c (ex VAT) for Postpay customers.

Do you Twitter from the road and if so how do you stay connected with your friends on Twitter?

I have not tried it but it looks a great application. Photo credit above to Tommi Laukkanen the developer of Twim.
