How do you feel about personality and it’s role in professional and career success? A book I really enjoyed reading last year was ‘Personality Not Included’ by Rohit Bhargava, one of the ‘virtual friends’ I’ve been honoured to meet over the years. He is one very savvy person in the area of digital influence.
Rohit is also someone who has done something extraordinary in terms of book marketing (any authors should go study him) as he has consistently developed additional materials (all free to access) on different aspects of personality since he launched the book last Summer.
His most recent project was to invite a number of women in his network to contribute to a project he has called ‘Women of Personality’ where each of the women were asked to answer a question about how personality had influenced their career.
Rohit has also created a Facebook Group for the project, as he says:
This group was created as a place to recognize Women of Personality – that is, women who have used and are using personality as a way to stand out in business and make themselves and the organizations they work for more successful.

You can access the Women of Personality Ebook online. The First Edition of WOP is available for FREE download and Rohit is currently accepting submissions from women to be part of the Second Edition – scheduled to launch in early June. To submit yourself or someone you know, send an email to pnibook@gmail.com or post a short introduction to yourself on the wall of the Women of Personality Facebook Group.
Sometimes expressing your personality at work and in your professional career can feel daunting and it’s might seem easier to stay in the background. Stepping out and standing for something carries with it some risks – risks that not everyone will agree with you, that not everyone will ‘like’ what you have to say.
When that happens, especially in today’s transparent digital world, it’s important to monitor and manage those conversations and actively seek out the feedback.
What I’ve come to realize over time is that our ‘message’ is not relevant for everyone – some people will resonate with your work and style and others won’t. I try to express my personality, be that in the virtual world or the ‘real world’, so that what people experience when reading or listening to me online is congruent with what they find when they meet me face to face.

Thanks so much for this; so encouraging to learn about Rohit’s generous project. I must admit half scared half the time managing an online community but the views of so many of these woman in his book have made me think differently about allowing myself the freedom to act like myself.
Wonder if you’ll see any difference on the artlinks enewsletter, I’ll be trying,

Thanks for sharing this, I already got the ebook by following your tweet, thanks, I’ve read half of it and it’s great, very inspiring.
My personality is bright and loud! And has definitely determined my choice in career. I love a challenge, which probably why I never stayed in any one “job” too long, choosing short term contracts instead. When I decided to set up my own business myself in Nov 07 I quickly realised that my personality is not very well suited to being an employee
I don’t think I would ever go back there again.
I, like you believe that personality needs to be shown to an extent when developing a brand- after all people do buy from people, not from businesses so it is key to show the brand or business having a personality- so that people can connect with and relate to.
I was talking to clients only yesterday who added a story of how they are supporting 3rd world countries onto their packaging of their product- sales have increased by 30%! Why is this? Because when you read a story you understand more about the personality- and you get to see if you have shared values- we buy from people we like – and we like people who we have something in common with!
The one dillema that I do have in “social” networking is the blur of boundaries – my facebook account was primarily for friends, now it’s a mix and I am afraid that I’m sharing too much personal information to prospective clients, yet I don’t want to let go of using it to chat and have fun with friends. I guess I have to make a choice about it at some stage, at the moment it’s kind of in between!
