Back in October, I attended the Organise Activate Influence conference facilitated by the European Commission Representation and the European Parliament Office in Ireland.
I was delighted to have the opportunity to talk with Zack Exley the notable political and technology consultant who in 2004 was the Director of Online Communications and Organising on John Kerry’s presidential campaign.
We talked about the opportunities for all if us as individuals to engage in the challenges of the 21st century and how we can use social media to bring about change in the world.
Whilst I usually post about business related issues, I thought it was timely to share this video as we consider what 2009 has in store for us.
Yes social media platforms can support us in engaging with customers, clients and business contacts. However these same platforms offer us an opportunity to have our voice heard on issues that impact not only ourselves, but our global neighbours and generations to come.
I look forward to the positive role social media can have in shaping our world in 2009. As the end of the first decade of the 21st century approaches, I wonder what my children (and their children in the future) will be saying in 50 years time about the role social media had in influencing peace, the economy, and the environment?
