CreativeCamp: Writing And Promoting Your Book With Social Media

You might recall the information I shared last week about CreativeCamp taking place on the 8 March 2008 in Kilkenny.

I am hosting a session entitled “Writing And Promoting Your Book With Social Media”.

During the session I will be covering practical tips on how you get get that book written, published and sold with the help of social media.

I’ll be covering ideas that I am putting into practice myself (yes I’m in conversation with a publisher at the moment for a potential book series) and will also be sharing best practice case studies from the series of teleseminars I hosted in 2007 with experts on our Biz Growth Live programme.

Don’t forget that it is FREE to attend CreativeCamp - all you need to do is register online.

If you are interested in this topic and have questions you would like me to address on the day, do email me or comment here.

If you are not able to attend the live event but would like to attend a virtual event - by webinar or teleseminar, do let me know and I will schedule a seminar.

CreativeCamp: Saturday 8 March 2008, Kilkenny, Ireland

You might recall last year the articles I wrote about Barcamp Dublin and Ireland’s first social media conference, Podcamp Ireland. Well now we have CreativeCamp which will be taking place on Saturday 8th March, 2008 at The Parade Tower, Kilkenny Castle, Kilkenny being organised by Ken McGuire and Keith Bohanna.

CreativeCamp follows the same format of the previous Barcamp’s and Podcamp Ireland in that it will be free to attend. CreativeCamp provides a forum where if you are interested in the internet and technology you can come and share your experiences and network in the real world with others who share you passion.

CreativeCamp is actively extending an invitation to musicians, artists and others in the arts who want to explore the use of the Internet and new media to promote their work and communicate their passion.

And furthermore, CreativeCamp have developed a strategy with their sponsors Blacknight to try to make the conference carbon neutral with the planting of 12 trees native to Ireland.

You can register to attend CreativeCamp online and if you would like to speak on a subject you are passionate about or perhaps want to host a discussion forum you can register your interest here.

Some of the sessions already planned include:

  • Outsourcing your development workload to free your creative time
  • Branding an Arts organisation from the inside
  • GPS For Developers
  • Writing and promoting your book with social media (I’m leading this session)
  • How To Blog Like A Boy
  • The Art Of Software Development
  • Work in Progress: Creating a vibrant, connected Arts Community in the South East
  • How Friends Communicate
  • Panel Discussion: Women & Technology (I’m faciliating this session).

If you are interested in social media including blogging and podcasting and how the Internet and technology can be used to achieve your professional goals, I do hope you will put the 8 March 2008 in your calendar - CreativeCamp is sure to be a great forum for learning, sharing and fun! Oh and did i mention - it’s FREE to attend!

Managing your overheads through VOIP

As we grow our professional services practice, there are two key areas we can focus on to drive growth in profits.

Firstly growing revenue generation with new offerings, attracting new clients and working closely with exiting clients so that we build long term sustainable relationships with them - all areas we focus on here at Biz Growth News.

Of course the other area we can focus on to grow our profits is managing our overheads i.e. we control costs.

I spend a lot of time using the phone to connect with clients in Ireland and overseas, to record podcasts and also to deliver teleseminars and webinars and use a variety low cost service providers for telephone services.

One favouite resource of mine is Skype and I especially enjoy the fact you can arrange conference calls with it and you can instant message people - a really fast way to connect to colleagues rather than having to wade through emails.

Skype was invaluable as a resource for the recent telesummit “A Brand You World Global Telesummit” when fellow event organiser, Kirsten Dixson and I could keep in contact for the full 24 hours of programmed teleseminars and manage technical hitches including the fact we lost one of the speakers who dialed in and one of the event hosts had problems with their battery on their phone died! Note to anyone organising events that span several hours - remind your attendees if they are speakers or hosts to phone from a land line and not use a hands free set that has a limited battery time!

We also use Skype to record the weekly podcast with The Podcast Sisters.

However I NEVER recommend using VOIP for especially important events that you are recording as it can prove very troublesome and I have had some people call in to my teleseminars cause problems with the quality of the line wen they have used Skype.

If you are interested in exploring VOIP for your business and are in Ireland, you might be interested to note that the Irish Internet Association is holding an seminar on VOIP technology on 6th December between 8am to 10.30am at The Westbury Hotel, Dublin 2.

Speakers  will be from telephone service providers providers eircom and Glantel and a online hotel booking company Bookassist who use VOIP in their business.

The workshop will outline the benefits of a VoIP system for your business, highlight the things that need to be in place (including infrastructure, security and firewalls, Quality of Service (QoS)) and will explore the types of solutions you can use ranging from an outbound only solution to a fully hosted solution. You can book to attend this event at the IIA website.
