Think of a podcast as a radio show delivered over the Internet. Each show consists of a series of individual episodes that you can listen to how you want — on your PC, using your MP3 player, or with just a web browser on the Internet.

But even better than a regular radio show, you can choose what you want to listen to when you want to listen to it – you no longer have to listen to the show in real time when it is broadcast.

You can listen to these episodes one at a time from the Internet or you can ’subscribe’ to the entire podcast series using software on your PC. When you subscribe to a podcast, all new shows will be automatically downloaded to your computer as they are published and available. And if you have an MP3 player, the next time you link up your MP3 player to synconrise it, your podcasts will be downloaded for listening on the go.

You can think of a podcast as being like a magazine subscription because when you subscribe to it you will automatically get updates of new episodes of the show.

If you just want a copy of a particular episode, you don’t have to subscribe. You can just play the business podcast from the Internet using the buttons provided. Please note this will work best if you have a fast Internet connection.

If you prefer to listen to an episode of Biz Growth Podcast later, you can right click the “Download” button, then it will ask you where you want to save the audio file on your hard disk. You can then transfer it to your MP3 player or burn the recording onto a CD to listen to later

Getting Updates of the Biz Growth Podcast

If you want to make sure you never miss an episode, make sure that you subscribe to the Biz Growth Podcast really simple syndication (RSS) feed.

The RSS feed is updated each time a new audio file is published and made available for your to listen to. An aggregator for podcasts (such as iTunes or iPodder) is used to subscribe to the RSS feed. The software automatically checks for and downloads new audio files. The file can then be synconised to a digital audio player.

To subscribe to the Biz Growth Podcast you use a software programme called a podcatcher. Sometimes this is also called a podcast aggregator. The podcatcher regularly checks the feed for new content that has been posted. When a new podcast show is found, it’s downloaded.
